Description
Jacqueline Winspear discusses her book, “Maisie Dobbs.” She begins by discussing the book’s plot. She explains that the protagonist, Maisie Dobbs began her working life at the age of thirteen as a servant in a mansion, only to be discovered reading in the library by her employer, Lady Rowan Compton. Lady Rowan and her friend Dr. Maurice Blanche then decide to support Maisie and help her receive an education. However, soon after Maisie begins school at Girton College, the Great War breaks out and she enlists for nursing service overseas. Later Maisie is able to become a psychologist and private investigator. Winspear explains that in this book Maisie receives her first of several assignments that eventually led to seven Maisie Dobbs Novels. Also in this interview, Winspear discusses how she began writing, her writing process, and her fascination with the Great War.
