Description
2018-3188. Formal group portrait. History of family handwritten on verso (dated 1957). Jesse Wood was born in Georgia, into family which migrated from Scotland in 1730; graduated from Law School, University of Virginia; married Alice Tison. Ran school for girls near Tuskeege; came to California via Panama about 1872; settled in Chico where was preacher; moved to Oroville; became publisher/owner of the Oroville Mercury, Colusa Daily Chronicle, Chico Record; became County Superintendent of Schools for Butte County. Died in 1921. Removed from: William R. Parker Collection, SMC, Box 924.
