Valley Times Today article dated November 7, 1962 partially reads, "Gov. Edmund G. Brown's apparent victory over Richard M. Nixon today established Brown once again as one of the Democratic Party's top vote-getters in the United States. His margin of victory this morning was pointing toward 200,000 to 300,000 votes, down from his 1958 edge of 1,000,000 votes over former Sen. William Knowland. But to win, Brown had to beat the Republican Party's 1960 presidential nominee and buck a national trend that saw GOP gubernatorial candidates elected in such major states as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan."
