This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
"27" printed on photo. Text written under photo: "Merchant's Exchange Building with clock tower. California Street looking west from Sansome Street 1886." Merchants Exchange on the left side. Numerous insurance companies, stockbrokers, and banks line California between Sansome and Montgomery. Buildings are three to four stories. Stanford mansion seen atop Nob Hill to left. Steeple of Old St. Mary's can be seen in the distance to the right. North Beach and Mission horsecar is heading down California away from camera; another car of same company has just crossed California on Kearny going north. California Street Cable Railroad Co. car is waiting on turntable at Kearny.
