Photo album of the 4th Conference of the International Union for Solar Research. The album is bound in gray paper boards, with "Photographs" embossed in red on the front cover. A typescript label is taped to the front cover and reads: "Mount Wilson Observatory Archives. George Ellery Hale organized the 4th Conference of the International Union for Solar Research, held at Mount Wilson Aug. 30 -- Sept. 3, 1910. Some 70 to 80 delegates attended, many from Europe. Foreign visitors assembled in Chicago and were convoyed on the Santa Fe Railraod to Pasadena under guidance of Wendell P. Hoge. Recorders for the meeting were Walter S. Adams and Harold D. Babcock. Hoge later became an assistant at the Observatory. This small album was a gift from J.S. Plaskett, later director of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. The I.U.S.R. later evolved into the International Astronomical Union. Among people who can be recognized in these photos are Hale, Kapteyn, Plaskett, F.G. Pease, A.O. Leuschner, Miss Lasby, Fabry .... HWB 4/82". The album contains sixteen (16) pages of photographs.
