Photograph caption dated March 14, 1952 reads, "A thundering blast caused this scene of wreckage in shed of the Berg Metals Corp. at Adams and Long Beach boulevards. A 300-ton baling press blew up. Some workmen expressed theory that blast was caused by a souvenir war shell buried in the metal being processed. There was no fire and no one was injured."
