Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated October 26, 1949 reads, "Co-worker Fred Putnam re-enacts scene; arrow points to broken blade." The article partially reads, "A Burbank painter, caught in the whirling blades of a giant 10-foot fan, escaped death and was recovering today at St. Joseph Hospital. Michael Sychta, 41, of 616 N. Keystone St., Burbank, was spraying paint in a cooling tower at the Burbank City Power Plant on Magnolia Blvd. near First St. late yesterday. By accident, the fan was turned on....Desperately, Sychta grabbed one of the blades. Twice around he went, in a 10-foot circle, slamming against the walls of the tower. Then the blade to which he clung broke off and he was hurled...to a wooden platform below."
