Kate Crutcher was married to John Page Crutcher, a prominent Los Angeles attorney whose father helped found the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, still in operation today. A major figure in Los Angeles social circles, Kate was known for her tireless philanthropic efforts most notably on behalf of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the Community Chest. She was president of the Children's Hospital Society for 40 years, organizing guilds of volunteers and raising money. Crutcher continued to work for the civic good of Los Angeles until her death, at age 85, on October 28, 1954. Photograph caption dated April 14, 1956 reads "Mrs. Louis S. Lifton of Studio City is recipient of Kate Crutcher award presented at annual meeting of Volunteer Staff of Childrens Hospital."
