Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated July 3, 1963 partially reads, "A small crew of fire fighters today continued to mop up a brush fire that blackened 150 acres of Griffith Park Tuesday and came within 50 yards of animal compounds at the zoo before being controlled at 6:35 p.m...The blaze started shortly before noon near the Mt. Hollywood Dr. area of the park and was declared a major emergency by Los Angeles City firemen during the six-hour battle to stop it. Six air tankers supported 220 city and county fire fighters in efforts to control the blaze that was aided by gusty winds and 80-degree temperatures."
