Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.; Title supplied by cataloger.
Pictured are: (left to right) Mrs. Helen Cartwell with Judy, 5; Mrs. Merriam Manchester with Bette, 6; and Mrs. Della Rideout with Elsie, 6. Henry V. G. (Gus) Paulette, a 39-year-old former marine (not pictured) confessed to molesting one of the girls, presumably Elsie Riedout, in his car near Manchester Elementary School located at 8810 S. Hoover Street. Mrs. Helen Cartmill, saw Paulette in the back seat of his green sedan with the 6-year-old and rushed toward the car. Upon noticing her, Paulette pushed the child from the vehicle as Mrs. Cartmill jumped on the running board, all the while yelling, "Kidnapping! Kidnapping! Kidnapping!" Witnesses reported the fleeing car, with Mrs. Cartmill clinging to the running board. Police officers soon overtook the vehicle, arresting Paulette after a chase of several blocks. Photograph dated November 25, 1947.
