Description
Joseph Epstein discusses his book, “Friendship.” He begins by discussing how his book examines the question: What is a friend? He then attempts to put together a definition of the term. He explores the ides of Aristotle, Michel de Montaigne, Friedrich Nietzsche, Nancy Mitford and many more. Epstein also claims to have at least 75 friends. He then regales his listeners with stories about the failing friendship between Saul Bellow and the sociologist Edward Shills and how he was caught in the middle. He then goes on to discuss the differences between male and female relationships.
