Description
Photograph of Nancy Harrison pointing to misspelled courthouse sign. "Tain't right. -- Nancy Harrison points to misspelled courthouse sign" "What¿s in a word. To a layman there may not be much difference between "disposition" and "deposition." But to a legal mind they are words apart. That¿s why legal eyebrows were raised recently when the new courthouse contractor installed a sign reading "dispositions" over a county clerk¿s counter. It should have been "deposition" because this is where evidentiary depositions in lawsuits are received and filed. "We are going to remove the sign away ¿ I guess a lot of people have been wondering why we had a disposition section," said the Chief Deputy County Clerk W.G. Sharp. As for the meaning of "disposition" -- it¿s an act of disposing of something, according to Webster. That¿s what this reporter has done with this little yarn at this point" -- two Examiner clippings attached to verso, one of them dated, "March 16, 1959". Streetscape. Horizontal photography.
