Description
KNTV San Jose broadcast news footage for August 26, 1966; may be combination of the early and late news, includes national, local, sports and weather. Part 1: Teamsters Union goes on strike at Century Concrete, Teamsters Local 287 business agent Bert Compton and company owners Bud and Jim Griffith exchange words outside the plant; Mrs. David Harrison, wife of one of the police officer whose actions in East San Jose sparked neighborhood outrage, defends the police. Part 2: Peace Corps Director Jack Vaughn visits San Jose State College, fields questions about the Peace Corp and Vietnam War; 16-year-old Tommy Stark from Santa Cruz names his sailboat "HELP." Part 3: Los Angeles Assemblyman John Collier explains his proposal to begin charging tuition to California state colleges and universities; State College Trustee Harry Brakeville disagrees with proposal; report on forest fire threat (silent). Part 4: Dramatic rescue of Gilroy man Richard Barrow in San Antone Valley by Navy rescue helicopter (silent); charges of unfair labor practices on the Aguilar Ranch (or Agular Ranch) (on South First Street, San Jose), with agricultural workers holding up strike signs (silent); Part 5: Local baseball game, possibly pre-game exhibition between local television and radio personalities and the Mercury News; Titan 3-C rocket explodes, interview with Titan rocket booster manufacturer United Technology's Public Relations Officer Richard Larrick in Sunnyvale.
