Description
Jacob D. Hoppe was the first American postmaster in San Jose beginning in 1847. He represented San Jose in California's First Constitutional Convention. He was a founder of Alviso. He died from injuries suffered in the explosion of the steamboat, Jenny Lind, in 1853.
