Description
A bust-length studio portrait of Union Second Lieutenant James Ernest Schwartz (1843-1900) of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment with his head turned slightly to the right. Schwartz is wearing a hat, has a neatly trimmed mustache, a clean-shaven chin, and muttonchops that reach past his collar. "Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries ; No. 352 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C. and Broadway & Tenth St., N.Y." printed in black on verso.
