It takes many, many dimes to restore health to a polio victim. Take a look at this picture. In the center is little Walter Mitchell, arrow, a Los Angeles boy who was hard hit by polio in 1945. Unable to afford the huge cost of care, his parents turned to the March of Dimes for help. Total cost to date in Walter's case is more than $7000--all paid by the March of Dimes. You'll wonder why it costs so much to handle a polio case. Well, surrounding little Walter are the many reasons--the technicians, doctors, nurses and the maze of modern medical equipment that are required to lead Walter on the road back to health.
