Description
Photograph of a fisherman posing with his boat full of catch, ca.1900. A man stands in the middle of a lightly colored fishing boat in the center. The sails of the boat are drawn in while the lines of the sail can be seen making the shape of a right triangle from the post on the right. The right side of the boat has a cabin with a small circular window while the left side is full of fish with their fins sticking up. In the foreground, two seagull heads can be seen to the left while three boats can be seen in the background. The boat to the left is a large steam boat while the two boats on the right are smaller boats similar to the one in the center. "This is a small, 28'-30', gaff rigged sloop with a small trunk cabin, ... with a deck load of fish. This craft shows no sign of fishing gear and appears to have been used as a packer taking the catch from the fishing craft to the fish buyer or processor. The two crafts in the right background are 60'-75' long, motor powered with no sailing rig.The steamer to the left has a deck load of lumber" -- Dave McFadden, the Digital Library patron.
