Laura Esquivel became the first female president of Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos in Los Angeles in 1984. She went on to found two organizations, Lesbianas Unidas and LLEGO´, the National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Organization.
