Photograph of a view of the Hotel Metropole at dusk from the harbor in Avalon, 1900. The large Victorian hotel can be seen in the background at center. It is three stories high and has sever chimneys protruding from its steeply sloped roof. Two two-story buildings and a one-story building can be seen adjacent to the hotel at right. In the foreground, several small boats are beached on the rocky shore of the harbor. In the background, a line of tall hills is visible. Legible signs include, from left: "Metropole", "E.E. Beeson & Co. General Merchandise", "Bayview", and "Troy Laundry Co.".
