Photograph shows corner of 8th and Broadway, Chico. Fire teams going through a practice session. Wood's photography studio on corner top floor, above A.J. Hamado Junction Grocery Store. The La France Rotary steam engine was purchased in 1883 with a bequest from the Fred Lightner estate. It cost $3,000 and came with two horse carts and 800 feet of new hose. The steamer was eventually sold to the Mery foundry and dismantled. Its pumps were later used in local mining operations.
