Description
Photograph caption dated July 22, 1959 reads, "Officer Sam Yarvitz looks over Van Nuys City Hall main heating boiler that blew up in face of fellow officer Stanley J. Swinston when he tried to find out why there was no hot water in jail or kitchen at about 4 a.m. today. Maintenance personnel say pilot light failure caused accumulation of gas fumes in boiler's fire box."
