Description
Seated Buddha statue of crystalline limestone. It is of the (Indian) Post-Gupta period and the statue may be from the 9th or 10th century CE. The right hand is held in the vitarka mudrā. Snail-shell curls are arranged in horizontal layers and also cover the ushnisha. It is likely that it was a product of the Abhayagiri school. The monastery complex is of the Pabbatarāma vihāra type.
