Photograph caption dated July 25, 1989 reads, "Mayor Tom Bradley hoists a shovel of dirt at ground-breaking ceremony held yesterday for a novel $36.4 million project in Chinatown that would include the first major supermarket downtown and provide affordable housing for senior citizens. Grand Plaza at Grand Avenue and Sunset Boulevard just north of the Civic Center 'will bring together the residents and the shops and stores, a supermarket, laundry and medical offices that people use, all in one building,' Bradley said."
