Description
Two women in afternoon dress for February 1800. The woman on the left wears a white dress with a small train and a red belt, red ribbons crossed on the sleeves, and red triangular trimming at the hem. Her collar is low and lined with a narrow white lace ruffle. She wears long white gloves that go all the way up to her sleeves. The ribbons on her sleeves are in a criss cross pattern that creates two “x” shapes on each sleeve. She holds up her skirt to reveal a plain white ankle length underskirt. She wears a large red and white feather in her hair, which is attached by three gold and sea foam green headbands that connect at the neck. She wears gold drop earrings and an elaborate necklace of three strands of light green beads with a small cross hanging from the bottom tier. She wears yellow shoes. She walks down the stairs, holding up the front of her dress, and touches the other woman's left shoulder with her left hand. The other woman wears a long, white, patterned dress with three quarter length sleeves and long yellow above the elbow gloves. Her dress has a square neck, five gathered or open sections on the sleeve, and two pleats in the back. The fabric has a pattern of small, black dots and tiny arrow-like, or fleur de lis, shapes. In her hair, she wears a large blue and white feather plume attached by two silver headbands that meet at the nape of her neck. She wears silver earrings and a double strand necklace of silver beads. She faces away with her hand on the stair rail, looking toward the other woman. The There is a chandelier in the background.
