Photograph caption dated September 30, 1964 reads "Construction on a 4.5-mile stretch of the Antelope Valley Freeway is progressing ahead of schedule. Workmen are shown using heaving grading equipment on stretch from Red River Mine Road to the Angeles Crest Highway junction. State highway officials said the completion date has been set for June, 1965."
