Photograph of Mission Santa Barbara, showing holy garden, California, 1898. At center, various types of flora can be seen growing within the holy garden. The plants and trees are very diverse ranging from a pine tree, at right, to a Joshua tree, at left. Behind the trees, two large buildings can be seen surrounding the garden. Beyond the buildings, the top of the bell towers of the church are visible. The holy garden was an area in which women were not allowed to enter.
