This adobe belonged to Bernardino Machado, son of Don Agustin Machado, Rancho La Ballona (present day Culver City, California). Machado Ranch, originally granted to Don Ygnacio Machado was known as Rancho La Ballona and consisted of 14,000 acres. A print of this image appears in the Huntington Library's Verne Dyson Collection (mssHM 26404), p. 23 (Box 3) with the caption: "Bernardino Machado, son of Don Agustin Machado."
