1989-1153. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. A, leaf 38. View fron the front of a crenellated building; steps lead to entrance in a large rectangular tower; entrance beneath an arch; above entrance is rectangular stained glass windown surmounted by an arch; above entrance section is a squat rectangular section with blind rectangular "windows" on 2 visible sides; this section surmounted by another squat, crenellated tower with arched openings on 4 sides; entrance section flanked by recessed sections also with entrances and stained glass windows above entrance and crenellations at roofline. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "1854.Owned & occupied by the Presbyterian Church, one story 60x90, $25,000(First Congregational Church) This splendid edifice, now approaching completion, is situated on the east side of 6th street, between I & J street, ......Mr. A.C. Sweetser, architect. J.B.Benson, Pastor.Style of workmanship, castelated architecture. Cost of lot and building, $25,000...(City directory of 1856...) This church was torn down in the year 1923.Now occupied by Ed Kripp's Dance Hall, 'Dreamland'."
