Description
Workers stand outside of the Box Factory in Red Bluff. Piles of lumber can be seen in the photo, as well as rail road tracks used to ship off lumber.
"Box Factory- Red Bluff- 1900" The old Blue Ridgefactory on the sand bars east of Red Bluff. Their factory was overhauled and, with other expansions and additions, it became the largest pine manufacturing plant in the world by 1891 and the second largest sash and door factory in California. Its syreen (siren) whistle became the most familiar of Red Bluff's noises. Unfortunately , every spate of high water on the Sacramento flooded this factory and its lumber yards which resulted in maintenance cost and down time loss. This ;ed to its discontinuance by Diamond Match in 1911. -W.H. Hutchinson, California Heritage, no page list. (Factory acquired by Diamond Match from Sierra Lumber Company)
