Mary Pickford was a Canadian-born silent film actress, famously known as "America's sweetheart," co-founder of American Artists film studio, and one of the original founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Photograph caption dated May 8, 1940 reads "Mary Pickford, right, a sponsor of the Leopold Stokowski-Benny Goodman benefit concert in the Hollywood Bowl May 1, brushes up on her music with Constance Collier in preparation for concert at Beverly [Hills] Brown Derby. Benefit is for Finnish and Polish relief."
