This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Actual photograph of the destruction of a German sub-marine by the explosion of an Ash Can [depth charge] dropped from the deck of a destroyer, the deck of which is seen in the photograph. This occured [sic] off the coast of Ireland 1918." It is not stated if the destroyer was British or American.
