Description
"Der Dampfer Adolf Woermann im Mittelmeer." (The steamer Adolf Woermann in the Mediterranean Sea.") Photograph of the steamer 'Adolf Woermann' on the Mediterranean Sea. Passengers and the ship's crew[?] can be seen on the deck of the ship.
Adolph Woermann (1847-1911), was a merchant, shipowner and politician from Hamburg. The establishment of German colonies in Africa was significantly influenced by him. He was known as the largest German trader to West Africa and with his “Woermann-Linie” as the largest private shipowner in the world.
Friedrich (also known as Fritz) Nüssler (1900-1988), from Cologne, worked as a male nurse before serving the Leipzig Mission as a deacon in Machame from 1929 to 1931. Then he worked in Gonja until 1940, apart from a stay in Mbaga from 1933 to 1938.
