Description
Photograph of a commemoration plaque presented to the Los Angeles International Airport, in November 1954. Carved in marble read the words "Presented to the city of Los Angeles in commemoration of the inauguration the trans-polar air route directly connecting the city of Los Angeles with the European Continent by Scandinavian Airlines System November 15, 1954". Behind the plaque is a piece of cloth, possibly used to unveil it. To the right of the background is the backside of a man in a suit. To the left is a wire fence behind which several men stand watching, some holding their hands over their eyes to shade them from the sun. Behind them is the flat top of a building and two palm trees.
