Description
Photograph of an enormous grape vine belonging to Jacob Wilson, Carpenteria, Santa Barbara, ca.1898. The massive tree-trunk-sized vine, measuring eight feet three inches in circumference and covers one-half acre, sprouts from the ground and extends upwards towards the pergola where it spreads outwards covering the heavily laden pergola. The wooden posts of the pergola can be seen succumbing to the weight of the thick vines. The dirt floor is littered with leaves. A house (or building?) is visible in the background. A ladder leans against the walls of the house at left. Photoprint reads: "sixty port to uphold the frame".
