Description
Loyalist mural, Shankill Road, West Belfast, 1988. Mural represents 'Shutting the Gates of Derry' against Catholic forces by the Protestant Apprentice Boys in 1689. Symbol above mural - 'First Ulster Defence Association', above Crown and date 1688; mural is surrounded by insignia of contemporary Loyalist paramilitary organisations - top left and anti-clockwise: Ulster Defence Association; Loyalist Prisoners' Association; Ulster Freedom Fighters and Ulster Defence Force. Local graffiti.
