Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. When this interview was conducted Subhash Ojha was an Assistant Transportation Engineer with Caltrans at the Materials Lab in San Jose, CA. When the earthquake happened he was driving in a State truck in San Jose and driving to the the Materials Lab. From the radio heard the requests for inspectors to check the false work on Highway 87 which made him think that an earthquake had happened. When he arrived at the Lab he didn't see any initial damage, but later there was some minor damage found. His position tested samples of materials used on projects for Highways 17, 85, 280 and 87.
