Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
Pictured is the X-RH-1, the rocket powered helicopter backpack dubbed the 'Pinwheel' by the Rotor-Craft Corp of Glendale, which is being demonstrated at Van Nuys Airport. This unique rocket-powered helicopter which straps on the back, enables the pilot to fly hummingbird style and might revolutionize battlefield warfare. It is so simple in design that the average GI can master it with only three hours of flight instruction. The test pilot pictured is possibly Richard Whitehead, 36, of North Hollywood. Photograph dated April 15, 1957. See image 00154259 for additional photo in this series.
