Description
1989-1298. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 40. Front and center is a tall tomb; on the pedestal is printed "E.B. Crocker"; above this is a vertical pedestal with a carved figure sculpture on top; the figure is classically draped; one hand crosses her body and holds a wreath; the other arm balances on the first arm and the hand touches the face; the eyes of the figure are closed in remembrance; behind and around the tomb are leafless trees and branches. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Judge E.B. of Crocker Art Gallery. Died June 24th, 1875. Age 57. (Crocker plot) Other members of the family buried here."
