Annotation translation: "The load which stands in front of the young man is not light. But he is cheerfully willing to lift it onto his own head and carry it further. Africans carry heavy loads on their heads for hours, indeed days, on end. This lad is not doing this work for money, so that he can buy useless objects. No, for a good while he has been longing to gain possession of a New Testament. He declared himself willing to carry loads for as long as it takes to earn this precious book. He is already full of enthusiasm, because he knows that he does not have to wait long now before his wish comes true." - "HB [Heidenbote] 1938/7." Annotation: "Obgleich das Bündel, das der Junge vor sich stehen hat, nicht leicht ist, ist er freudig bereit, es wieder auf seinen Kopf zu nehmen & weiter zu tragen. Stunden-, ja tagelang tragen die Neger schwere Lasten auf dem Kopf. Der Knabe tat diese Arbeit nicht etwa des Geldes wegen, um nachher damit unnütze Sachen zu kaufen. Nein er hatte schon lange den sehnlichen Wunsch, ein Neues Testament zu besitzen. Er erklärte sich deshalb bereit, so lange Lasten zu tragen, bis er für die getane Arbeit das wertvolle Buch erhalten könne.
