Image of the 1862 Battle of Hampton Roads naval battle between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia (the renamed Merrimac); other ships involved, including the Cumberland, the Congress, and Confederate steamships the Jamestown and the Yorktown are also pictured.
"Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1862 by Henry Bill in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the District of Connecticut."--text, bottom center margin. "The "Monitor" 2 Guns and "Merrimac" 10 guns. The Merrimac was crippled and the whole Rebel Fleet driven off."--text, bottom center margin. "Cumberland. Newport News.
