Mary Pickford was a Canadian-born silent film actress, famously known as "America's sweetheart," co-founder of American Artists film studio, and one of the original founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Photograph caption dated January 10, 1962 reads "Two veterans of the motion picture industry, Mary Pickford and Sol Lesser, sit in front of a portrait of Mary which was painted when she was 19 years old as they discuss some of the momentos [sic] which will be placed in the Hollywood Motion Picture and Television Museum. Lesser, chairman of the museum commission, announced that ground-breaking for the structure, across from Hollywood Bowl, will take place in June." Lesser is sitting with Pickford, holding a small movie camera.
