Description
1989-1253. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 28. In foreground is the street; three individual homes are seen on the other side of the street; on left is a two story house with a porch on the first floor with a ballustrade and columns supporting a roof protecting the porch; the basement level is also visible; to its right is another house with shrubs hiding most of the facade; at the right is another one story house with a balcony on the first floor above the basement; sidewalk and white posts in front of the three houses; at extreme left a man is constructing the fencing between the posts; all the "homes" may belong together. Also have negative: no. #28,397 (4 x 5 in.). Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Home of August Meister, erected in 1878.Home, right, erected by John Meister, in 1863. Present Borden's Dairy, formally Capital Dairy founded by John Meister in 1853... John & Jacob Meister purchased 945 acres along the American River..."
