Image of Union and Confederate armies engaged during the Battle of Fair Oaks, Virginia, during the American Civil War; General Thomas Francis Meagher on horseback directs the charge as soldiers on foot surge forward leaving dead and wounded soldiers in their wake; cannons and fighting troops in background at right.

"Entered according to act of Congress , in the year 1862, by Currier & Ives, in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the United States, for the Southern District of New York."--text, bottom center margin. "The bayonet charge of the Irish Brigade at this battle, was the most stubborn, sanguinary and bloody of modern times Again and again they advanced... and the victorious "Army of the Potomac" continued their advance on Richmond."--text, bottom center margin.
