Charles Handy thought for the day on how appearances can be deceiving, and how individual truth will shine through in spite of outward appearances. Handy begins the thought discussing how conferences, and having to be around individuals that have the appearance of importance, can be depressing. He proceeds to talk about how his initial judgments of people at the conference were incorrect, and therefore how appearances can mislead. Handy then describes how Jesus Christ has been depicted as lame according to Christian tradition, but that no one indicated this condition in the Scriptures, using this fact to conclude that what matters is not one's appearance, but one's truth. It is living this truth that, for Handy, is the meaning or essence of life.
Handy, Charles B Lucretius Carus, Titus Keats, John, 1795-1821 Jesus Christ
