On the score that wisdom just might be contagious, I was assigned (soon after ordination) to an elderly pastor who used to joke that at his age he could turn for enlightenment to only two reading sources. One source was his breviary - that collection of Scripture readings and prayers which priests are urged to scan each day. He called it "God's book." The other source was the daily newspaper, most of all the sports page...
