Description
The Shay engine No. 7, shown stopped at the Tavern of Tamalpais. The Marin Exchange can be seen in the upper left hand corner at the summit of East Peak. The Tavern of Tamalpais was a combination hotel and restaurant that opened in 1896, and was sometimes referred to as Summit Tavern or Tamalpais Tavern. The Tavern burned to the ground in a 1923 fire, but was rebuilt and reopened in 1924. It continued to operate until 1950, when it was razed by the Marin Municipal Water District.
