Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Description
Photo was taken on the occasion of the installment of the Southern California Ashanti Chief, Nana Kofi Anin, in Los Angeles, April 1995. The chief is wearing regal clothing "Edwinasa" popularly known as the kente cloth. His wife wears a matching "female" pattern. The chief holds in his right hand the "Afena", which symbolizes strength. In his left hand he holds the "Bodua", to symbolize wisdom.
