Thought for the day by Charles Handy on the benefit and necessity of having friends, both in one's work life as well as in one's personal life. Handy begins the thought discussing his personal connection to Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia and the nation's plan for its next thirty years, the Vision 2020 plan, which aims to make Malaysia as prosperous as America, and to spread that prosperity. He goes on to explain that the West needs such allies, and how people, in their own personal lives, would also benefit from having close friends, contending that future work will increasingly be organized in teams of colleagues. Handy concludes his thought stating that people should focus more on working with others than for others, and that successful working relationships require a basis in trust and understanding.
