ff. 1-136v. [Book of Hours] ff. 1-12v: Calendar in French; ff. 13-28v: Pericopes of the Gospels, the Obsecro te and the O Intemerata, followed by a suffrage of Mary Magdalene; ff. 29-72v: Hours of the Virgin, use of Rouen with a suffrage after lauds of Catherine of Alexandria and one after compline of Lawrence, added in a contemporary Bâtarde script; ff. 73-90v: Penitential psalms and litany; ff. 91-94: Short hours of the Cross; ff. 94v-97v: Short hours of the Holy Spirit; ff. 98-128v: Office of the Dead, with responses to the lessons as in Sarum use; ff. 129-136v: Prayers in French.
Book of Hours written in the second half of the fifteenth century for use in Rouen, to judge from the liturgical use of the hours of the Virgin, and from the saints in the calendar and the litany. Span folios: ff. 1-136v. Support: Parchment. Layout: 1¹² 2-3⁸(through f. 28) 4-8⁸ 9⁴(through f. 72) 10-16⁸(through f. 128) 17⁸. No catchwords or signatures visible. Ruled space, 88 x 60 mm but on ff. 129-136, 90 x 65 mm; 14 long lines up to f. 128v, thereafter 16 long lines, ruled in pale red ink; pricking occasionally visible in the outer margin. Written in a gothic book hand, in two sizes according to liturgical function. Decoration: Seven miniatures in arched compartments with serrated tops, above 3 lines of text. 3-line initials in blue or dark pink on a gold ground, infilled with colored trilobe leaves; 2-line initials in gold on dark pink or blue grounds with infilling of the other color, and marginal sprays of black ink and gold motifs; 1-line initials in the same style, but without marginal sprays; ribbon line fillers and small flowers for the same purpose also in blue, dark pink and gold; initials in the text touched in yellow. Bound in late 16th century French red morocco with a simple tooled and painted fanfare design; holes from 2 fore edge ties; gilt edges.

On f. i is the note"ex libris joannis baptistae de mydorge," possibly written by the same person who filled the 3 back flyleaves with birth notices of Monsieur Mydorge, sieur de Fretay, of his wife, Marie le Bossu, the date of their marriage and the birth and baptism (at the"fons de St. Paul de Paris") of their 12 children, with dates from 1511 to 1561. Monsieur Mydorge, in listing his children's godparents includes his mother, Catherine Asselin, presumably of the well-known family originating in Rouen. Other names on these leaves place Monsieur Mydorge in the upper administrative echelons of his time, Olivier, Brette, Bochetel, Abra de Raconis, Bourdin, Rapoël, Bragelongne.
