Description
Image of people on the beach in front of the Santa Monica Bath House and Michael Duffy's Bath House (two long one-story buildings at right of the two-story Santa Monica Bath House) in Santa Monica, California, with the Santa Monica Hotel on the bluffs at right and the Ocean House on the bluffs among the trees at far left.
"4753. Beach and Bathing House at Santa Monica. Watkins' New Boudoir Series Yo Semite and Pacific Coast, 427 Montgomery Street, San Francisco."--text in margin. Title transcribed from item. Date devised by cataloger based on development of trees on bluff and photographer history; Watkins made two trips to Southern California, in 1877 and 1880. This image is earlier than photCL_555_01_1236 in which trees appear to be taller compared to the hotel.
